College/Career Center



What is the LMHS College and Career Center?
The College and Career Center is a resource center for students and their families to access information related to their college and/or career development needs. Students can make appointments with counselors or drop in to the center as needed.
What types of services are provided for students and families through the center?
·         Access to interest inventories
·         Access to career development and occupational outlook websites
·         Access to college search websites
·         Individual appointments with counselors to discuss results of inventories and/or other college/career related information
·         Appointments to meet with college and military representatives
·         Resources are provided on college planning timelines, college visit information, and transitioning into college life
·         Resources are provided on interviewing, resumes, and assessing job readiness skills
·         Career speakers related to a variety of fields offered each month
·         Seminars on topics such as filling out the FAFSA, 1st generation college bound students, NCAA requirements, finding scholarships, and RAI
·         Information on job shadows and internships

When is the College and Career Center open?
The College and Career Center is open from 8:30-3:30 each day. Appointments can be made before and after school as well. Students can make appointments with the counselor in the center or drop in with questions throughout the day. Students can also stop by and get a pass to meet with college or military representatives that will be visiting.

14th: Freshmen student orientation session on college/career center
25th : Preparing for college/senior year grades, etc -Senior visits begin
25th: H.S. Open House- Activities in College/Career Center

September
1st-5th: Freshmen I Have A Plan Iowa sessions
4th: 10-12 Job Shadowing info in homeroom
11th: 10-12 internship info in homeroom
13th: ACT testing

18th: 11-12 college/scholarships (videos) in homeroom
18th: College Days promotion all day
22nd-26th: Sophomore I Have A Plan Iowa sessions
23rd- 9th grade parents-understanding GPA, preparing for college, getting involved  (6:30 p.m.)
24th : NCAA discussion before school (7:45 a.m.)
29th- 11-12th grade students/parents- College Planning Night/Financial aid night (6-8 pm)

October
1st-3rd: Senior I Have A Plan Iowa sessions
3rd: Career Speaker- Engineering (Schneider Electric)
10th: RAI discussion 7:45 a.m.
15th: PSAT 8 a.m.-noon
25th: ACT testing
28th: Career speaker- Marion Police Department!!! 11:00 a.m.
29th: small group session “attending college out of state- what to know”-  7:45 a.m.

November
Job Shadowing info through announcements beginning of the month
All month: 10th grade group sessions scheduled during the day
10th-14th: Junior I Have A Plan Iowa sessions
TBD: PSAT results discussion 8 a.m.

December

4th- Student speaking about Hoover Uncommon Scholar Award, 8:00 a.m.
7th: ACT testing

10th- Presentation on Scholarship Essay Writing!, 8:00 a.m.
23rd-27th: Sophomore I Have A Plan Iowa sessions
